When people think of dazzling holiday displays, they picture Rockefeller Center in New York or the spectacle of Disneyland, but few outside the area realize just how magical Long Beach becomes during the holiday season. As a local, I look forward to this time of year when the city transforms into a seaside winter wonderland, full of festive traditions that make living here truly special.
One of the most festive sights is the annual Naples Island Boat Parade, where boats decked out in twinkling lights and over-the-top decorations cruise through the canals lined with decorated homes and bridges. It’s a must-see spectacle that rivals any big-city holiday display, and the reflections of the lights on the water make it even more beautiful.

Then, there’s the famous floating Christmas trees, a Long Beach tradition since 1949. These glowing trees, bobbing on the waterways from the Colorado Lagoon to Alamitos Bay, pop into view all over. Whether you’re strolling along the shore or cruising by on a boat, they’ll get you in the holiday spirit.
Belmont Shore gets in on the celebrations too, with its festive décor. The annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade brings the whole community together, featuring marching bands, local businesses, and even Santa himself. And let’s not forget the Olde Time Holiday Trolleys, which are a blast with the funny drivers, and they make it easy to hop between holiday hotspots.

Every year, as the lights start to go up, I get excited all over again. There’s something about Long Beach during the holidays that feels both magical and welcoming. It’s just one of the many reasons why living here is so special.
